PREPARATIONS are well underway for the holding this month of a series of classroom videoconferences between high school students of selected schools in Manila and Zamboanga City.

Fourteen teachers completed a facilitators’ training last Saturday jointly by the Peace Tech, Inc. and the Center for Peace and Development (CPD) of  Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) held at the CPD office.  The teachers will anchor and manage the videoconferences, which will tackle sensitive cultural issues and concerns mainly arising in Muslim-Christian relations, Dr. Marcelina Carpizo said.  Dr. Carpizo is the director of CPD.

FILIPINO Jesuit priest Fr. Albert Alejo, SJ has added another weapon in the arsenal of the burning Philippine crusade against corruption with the publication of his latest book entitled “Ehemplo – Spirituality of Shared Integrity in Philippine Church and Society”.

The book had its initial launch last September 1 in a ceremony held at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s (ADZU) The Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago, sponsored by the school’s Ateneo Center for Leadership and Governance.  The book is published by the Institute of Spirituality in Asia.  Tucked in a jacket in its back cover is a DVD containing a 45-minute video documentary and three MTVs on the subject of corruption.

THE city’s Roman Catholic Church is set to update its policies and priorities in 10 areas of administrative concern during the Archdiocesan Pastoral Assembly of Zamboanga (APAZ) to be held September 6–10, 2010. This is a historic event for the Archdiocese of Zamboanga  as part of  its centennial activity.

Delegations from the city’s 24 parishes including diocesan and religious clergy, religious sisters, Catholic schools, Basic Ecclesial Communities, youth and other religious organizations and movements will converge at the Centro Pastoral at Gov. Camins Avenue this city.

 
WMSU-CPD of VP-RDE Gearing Up for Coming Peace-Building Classroom Video Conference E-mail

FOURTEEN classroom teachers from seven local schools will undergo a facilitators’ training to be given by the Western Mindanao State University’s Center for Peace and Development (WMSU-CPD) and Peace Tech Inc. to prepare them to assist in the forthcoming national video conference series between selected high school and college students in Manila and Zamboanga City.

The video conference is a project of Peace Tech, now a Manila-based foundation devoted to peace-building thru Information Technology (IT), CPD Director Dr. Marcelina Carpizo revealed.  Its goal is to develop young people into peace advocates through  multi-cultural encounters and education, she also said.

A Clean Heart Takes Care of EverythingMUSLIM and Christian religious leaders along with their followers in this city expressed their solidarity by a joint celebration of Iftar – or the ritualistic breaking of the Ramadan fast – sponsored by the Inter-Religious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP) last Saturday evening.

Iftar is a deep spiritual experience in sharing not only with God but also with one another, IRSMP Catholic convenor Fr. Angel Calvo, CMF told the over a hundred members of the movement, including a sizeable number of guests who came to attend event that was held at the Solidarity Center of Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ). We pray that we may sustain this spirit of interfaith solidarity and our sense of faith, purification and peace, he added.
